Email to Fax Integration (Exchange & SMTP)

FaxCore's Email-to-Fax integration eliminates the need for proprietary plug-ins on mail servers. It utilizes standard SMTP transport connectors to relay outbound fax messages from Microsoft Exchange, Microsoft 365, or any SMTP mail server to FaxCore.

Email to Fax Integration Architecture

Supported Email Address Formats

1. Basic SMTP Format

faxnumber@fax.yourdomainname.com
  • Example: +1-720-870-4141@fax.faxcore.com

2. Advanced SMTP Format (Metadata & Billing)

faxnumber/name/company/tracking/billing@fax.yourdomainname.com
  • Example:
    +1-720-870-4141/JohnDoe/ContosoInc/Case101/BillingA@fax.faxcore.com

3. Outlook Business Fax Address Space

[FAX:Name@Number@Company]
  • Example: [FAX:Tom Linhard@+1-720-870-4141@FaxCore]

Configuring Microsoft Exchange Server

Step 1: Add Exchange SMTP Send Connector

  1. Open Exchange Management Console > Organization Configuration > Hub Transport.
  2. Select New Send Connector.
  3. Name: FaxCore SMTP Connector. Intended use: Custom.
  4. Address Space: Click Add and enter fax.yourdomain.com (Type: SMTP).
  5. Network Settings: Select Route mail through the following smart hosts and insert the IP address of the FaxCore server.
  6. Authentication: Select None.
  7. Source Server: Associate with your Exchange Hub Transport server and complete the wizard.

Step 2: Add Send Connector for the FAX Address Space (PowerShell)

To support Outlook native [FAX:...] contacts, run this cmdlet in the Exchange Management Shell:

new-sendConnector FAX -DnsRoutingEnabled:$false -Smarthosts:<FaxCore_Server_IP>

When prompted for AddressSpaces[0]:, type:

FAX:*

Press Enter twice, then restart Exchange transport services.

  2. Expand SMTP Virtual Server > Domains.
